Where are My Balance Problems Coming From?
Problems with keeping your balance can be caused by issues in the inner ear (also known as the vestibular system) as well as many other medical conditions and injuries.
Balance is a critical aspect of physical function, and maintaining or improving balance is often a key goal in physical therapy – especially for individuals with certain medical conditions, injuries, or age-related concerns. What & How We Treat
Assessment of Balance
Our therapists will conduct a detailed evaluation of your balance abilities – including static and dynamic balance. This will allow us to identify specific areas of concern.
Gait Analysis
We will observe and analyze your walking pattern (gait) in order to identify any abnormalities or specific issues that may be affecting your balance.
Proprioception Exercises
Your therapist may prescribe targeted exercises to enhance proprioception (awareness of body position in space). This can improve your position sense and overall balance.
Coordination Training
You may be prescribed specific exercises that challenge coordination and motor control. This will help you to respond to changes in your environment more effectively.
Functional Activities
Your therapist may utilize functional activities that mimic real-life scenarios as part of your therapy. This will help you practice balance in context.
Visual Input Exercises
These exercises involve activities focused on visual input. This will improve the integration of visual information into your balance control.
Vestibular Rehabilitation
Vestibular rehabilitation exercises are for people with inner ear issues that affect balance. They are specifically designed to improve your vestibular function.
Fall Prevention Education
Our therapists will provide you with fall prevention strategies as well as guidance on proper footwear, proper use of assistive devices, and environmental awareness.
